Gulfi
Vito Cantania wanted to continue the work on vines and olive oil initiated by his family in Sicily more than three generations prior. His passion for wine and his homeland, Sicily, led him to develop these prestigious vineyards in his native area: Chiaramonte Gulfi on Mount Iblei in the province of Ragusa. Since 1996, he has added innovation to the inherited tradition of his ancestors, from a long process of massal selection of vines to an extremely meticulous attention to the culture of its vines to create unique and prestigious Crus.
The vineyards, which begin precisely at Mount Iblei, in the region of Ragusa - the traditional area for Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG - extending to the lower part of Sicily, Pachino, specifically in the DOC Eloro. These vines gave birth to the four Grand Crus of Nero d'Avola, each with one unique difference: the terroir.
Philosophy
We respect what nature offers us by cultivating according to tradition, with sapling vines. We do not irrigate because this was taught to us by our ancestors, we follow the rhythms of nature. letting our vines find their own balance. We cultivate according to the principles of organic farming as a natural consequence of our production philosophy, respecting ourselves and consumers. We have always kept the sacredness of harvest unchanged, a moment in which we collect the grapes manually, with the rituality of a gesture handed down by history.
Biography
What we represent on the labels of our wines is our tribute to our land, Sicily.
The ancient depiction of the famous mosaic found in the Piazza Armerina, in the province of Enna, tells the legend of Eros (Cupid) and Psyche (Beauty) who, out of envy from Venus, are forced to love each other in secret. This passion gives birth to a daughter called Voluptas (Pleasure).
For us, this represents a metaphor where Eros is Gulfi, whose love for his beautiful land (Psyche) gives birth to his wines which are an expression of pure pleasure (Voluptus).
