San Ruffillo
Corte San Ruffillo is an organic agritourism company of about 430 hectares in the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines, mainly in the Valle del Montone. Corte San Ruffillo combines the cultivation of its land, with agro-tourism hospitality activities, with comfortable rooms and a cozy restaurant and with the transformation of our agricultural products into fruit compotes, wine and cold cuts.
About half of the lands are occupied by natural environments such as woods, meadows, hedges, gully formations and streams that make the natural and biological quality of our cultivations very high. The agricultural surfaces, on the other side, immersed in a natural environment that is far from sources of pollution. They are mainly cultivated with cereals, legumes, fruit, vegetables and vines, or they are destined to pastures dedicated to the breeding of Romagna cows. In addition to them, we also breed pigs in collaboration with selected local breeders.
The company is run and certified organic. It also uses biodynamic practices to obtain the best possible products, both from the point of view of healthiness and environmental sustainability. In particular, the main crops are cereals (such as wheat, farro, barley), fruit (peaches, nectarines and small fruits) and, last but not least, wine grapes.
Philosophy
Corte San Ruffillo cultivates more than 200 hectares organically to keep the wonderful environment in which we live intact, raise animals and produce grapes, olives, cereals, fruit, vegetables and cured meats for the customers and guests of Corte San Ruffillo , to guarantee unique organoleptic properties and healthy products, of extraordinary goodness.
The land, mostly of hills and mountains, extends mainly in Romagna-Tuscany, a few kilometers from the Casentinesi Forests National Park and, beyond the Muraglione Pass, from Florence.
It is in this natural context and precisely in the laboratories of Rocca San Casciano that we transform almost everything we produce into artisan cured meats, compotes, chutneys and certified organic wine while we allocate the processing of our olives, cereals and honey to mills, mills, pasta factories and honey factories certificates and reference for our territory.
Biography
Corte San Ruffillo is a very important place for the history of our family. Therefore, in 2008, together with the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, we restored the entire complex so that all the consolidation interventions could be distinguished from its original structure, which was left totally intact.
The complex of Corte San Ruffillo has very ancient origins indeed. In the Ratio Decimarum of 1290 (the register of the tithes that were collected by the Papal state) this place was called "Plebis S. Rophilli", it was inserted into the Diocese of Forlimpopoli and it seemingly arose on the site of the ancient castle of Counts Guidi. As a matter of fact, sources say that the church foundation dates from around the eleventh century, even if popular tradition says the Casa Canonica (the parsonage), the church, the cellars and the related services date back to the second half of 300 BC, the period of St. Ruffillo Martyr’s preaching, Bishop of Forlimpopoli. Over the centuries, the complex has been enriched until it took on its present appearance with the construction of Villa Filetto in 1810.
