Valori
Totally devoted to winegrowing, and far from invasive technologies, Luigi Valori has modelled his wines on his image, to express the sincerity of his intentions and his commitment to the winemaking art, an activity he started for his deep love for wine. Respect for time and seasons is typical of the winery, whose focus is always on the raw material: the grapes which need to enjoy a natural life cycle. In 2010, Luigi’s extraordinary passion for botany and his meticulous attention to oenological techniques finally led him to convert the production to organic, goal achieved with the 2015 vintage.
Philosophy
The keystone of Luigi Valori's work is the principle that
the vineyards, like a human being, need to suffer to
give the best of themselves, to be taken to the cultivation limit to generate high-quality and balanced grapes, and so exceptional wines. “Working in the vineyard has been the most extraordinary experience of human
growth of my life, because it taught me to know my
limits, before making excellent wines”. This is the
motto of his life and his way of working.
Biography
Luigi Valori is a man with countless interests and strong passions, two of them cultivated over a lifetime with creativity and devotion: land and football.
A Professional soccer player in the golden Ascoli of the 70s, he knows the glories of the “Serie A” and, despite the long retreats and the strict diet imposed by the sport, he cultivates a passion for gastronomy and discovers the world of quality wine since he was young. He visits France several times, learns about the French culture of drinking and approaches what will become one of his favorite grape, the Merlot.
His retirement from the soccer fields in 1983 offers him the opportunity and the energy to full time devote himself to the study of wine and the management of vineyards. Thanks to his early studies in agronomy, he throws himself heart and soul into a new adventure: in 1996, he buys his first vineyard and starts his own experiments with viticulture and winemaking.
In between harvesting, he manages to convey the profound interest in philosophy in a course of study at the Pontifical Vatican University, where he graduates in theology in 2006. He divides his days through readings of great classics and the labors in the vineyard.
At this point, the land has the upper hand. What started as a game, in a short time turns into a job, hard and rewarding, which is also a continuous challenge with himself. The real turning point comes with the meeting of Gianni Masciarelli, pioneer of modern Abruzzi viticulture, which significantly influences his way of conceiving and making wine. Gianni infects him with his enthusiasm and his extraordinary vitality and teaches him that wine is a concrete element, which always reflects the personality and the level of involvement of those who produce it.
