Since then Viticcio flourished by virtue of imagination, experimentation and audacity, the achievement of a lifetime dedicated to the quest for perfection, what have brought wines that embody the greatest features of Tuscan terroir with classic, mature yet fresh and sensual style.

Viticcio has been making wines since 1964, among the rolling hills of Greve in Chianti, in the very heart of Chianti Classico. From the outset, the destination was to create outstanding wines that express the most authentic link between nature and man. In 2015, Alexander and Helen Biba, driven by the unique treasures of the Tuscan nature and a desire to share its gifts allover the world, acquired ownership. Devoted to land stewardship in an effort to sustain the greatest feature of Viticcio Wines, the Tuscan terroir. The winery has grown to encompass 120 hectares of estate-owned land among the hills of Chianti Classico and Maremma.
Chianti Classico: Thousands of years of history lay behind the production of this zone. Grapes have been transformed into wine since the Ancient Etruscans occupied these hills over 2000 years ago. Greve in Chianti is a significant zone of Chianti Classico. Located in the Greve Valley and named for the river that runs through it, this small town has bustled with economic activity and trade for hundreds of years. Today, it is the principle town for the wine-producing area of Chianti that stretches from south of Florence to just north of Siena. In the Greve Valley, Viticcio has three vineyards for a total of twenty-eight hectares: Mezzola, Colognole, and Belvedere. The climate is ideal for growing grapes and not excessively hot while enjoying a good diurnal temperature range, especially in the lower areas around the Belvedere vineyard. This marked temperature variation between night and day helps the grapes develop rich polyphenolic compounds and aromas, creating more complexity in the wines. Notably, the valley is rarely foggy. Instead, it benefits from great ventilation that proves healthy for the grapes. In general, the soils are rocky with some clay and sand, while some areas consist of prevale.
Maremma: This region borders the Tuscan coast and is characterized by its wild, unspoiled and natural beauty. The constant sea breezes caress the vines, giving optimal ventilation that lends freshness and a touch of salinity to the grapes grown here, and thus a savoriness to its wines. Viticcio cultivates a total of thirty hectares of vineyards in Maremma, among which grow Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Foglia Tonda, and the white Vermentino, which is the winery’s first and only white wine. The soils are rich in clay, lime, and sand, with a prevalence of sandstone and a slightly acidic component to its composition. The vineyards are located at an average of 150 meters above sea level. From the highest point the Tyrrhenian Sea is visible.

Biography

Daniele Innocenti is the head winemaker at Viticcio. He was born in Greve in Chianti in 1977, and spent his childhood just in front of the same vineyards he manages today. His passion for oenology was handed down from his grandfather, who led him to graduate in Viticulture and Enology in 2002. In 2001 he began an internship at Tenuta Castiglioni, a property of the Frescobaldi family; his experience continued there until 2005.
In the same year he started working at Viticcio, a company that he always considered his home. His work consists of viticulture and the enological part of production. This is from the vineyard to the cellar, where he carefully follows the process of winemaking.
Over the years, Daniele's experience, which includes stints in Bolgheri and Montalcino, has propelled the Viticcio name to be recognized worldwide for its true and undisputed quality.
"Each peace of earth has taste and flavor. What is important in the end? The care is major for winemaker. Sustain the land on which you plant" - Daniele Innocenti
