The Story
Let me tell you all about the “grapest” …excuse me, the greatest heist I’ve solved in my career.
The year was 2022, I received a call on the tip line from the heart of Tuscany. A vineyard owner disclosed that a large amount of grapes were missing from his family’s property. Usually, when I get this type of call, the caller is frantic and very upset. However, this vineyard owner was seemingly more interested in finding the suspects. He was intrigued by the impressive blueprint of a new wine blend that had been left behind.
Once I arrived on the scene finding the suspects was easy. Like Hansel & Gretel, they had literally left tracks that led me to their hideout. Paw prints from a raccoon, fox, ferret, and a cat led me right to the furry suspects and the missing grapes. Bringing them in for questioning revealed that they each picked out their favorite grape to add to the blend. The leader of the pack and most seasoned bandit, the racoon, chose the Sangiovese grape. This was the biggest haul of them all. The sly fox got away with a good amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, while the ferret gathered a fair share of Merlot grapes. The most hilarious revelation was finding out the cat took quite a few Syrah grapes, but ate so many it ended up being the smallest amount in the blend.
Inspired by the ambition and courage of the furry winemakers, the vineyard owner dropped the charges and produced their blend. At last, the winemaking dreams of our furry friends became reality and Sospetti was born. Not just a wine, but a celebration of camaraderie, mystery, and the hilarious antics of our unforgettable suspects.
