The Story
"Borrigiano" means "inhabitants of the Il Borro hamlet", and is the Estate’s first wine with the appellation Valdarno di Sopra DOC and the first with organic certification. It is born of the ongoing will of Borro to experiment and to provide consumers with an unexpected experience. Though lesser known, this region carries just as much heritage as the likes of Chianti. Wines have been crafted here for hundreds of years, recognized throughout Italy and protected by royalty. After light protection under the greater Chianti name during the 19th and 20th centuries, Valdarno di Sopra was one of the last regions to gain its own DOC in the 1960's.
About Il Borro
Brand Story
Rumours of the Etruscans buzz throughout the vineyards, but concrete records of Il Borro date back to 1254, when the Mscagni family purchased the castle of Il Borro and the surrounding land. Ownership has changed many times, seeing royalty and the ambitious roam its halls. In 1993 Ferruccio Ferragomo purchased the estate, and his son Salvatore now leads as CEO.
